AI & Education:

Challenge Accepted!

Will Artificial Intelligence truly democratize education? As AI-powered classrooms emerge, will robots replace teachers in underserved schools while human educators remain in wealthier ones?

AI adoption is advancing at an astonishing pace: by November 2022, nearly 40% of the young population in the United States were already using it, a speed greater than the internet or personal computers ever achieved (Bick, Blandin, and Deming, 2024). However, in regions like Latin America and the Caribbean, where 40% of students lack reliable internet access, that promise still seems distant (IDB, 2022). Will AI then be a tool to close gaps or will it end up widening them, leaving millions of people out of the technological future?

About the event

What is the impact of AI on
education?

AI is transforming education fast. As AI-powered classrooms emerge, the question is no longer if, but how. Will it democratize access or create new barriers?

Join thought leaders to discuss how AI can expand access, personalize learning, and prepare students for the future while addressing the risk of deepening inequalities.

What is the impact of AI on education? A Vox
Populi Exploration

Video intro

10:10 am

What happens when young entrepreneurs and educators join forces to inspire change? In this dynamic flash talk, the Carvajalino Sisters share their journey of empowering youth across Latin America and the Caribbean, showcasing how innovation and education can shape a more resilient and inclusive future.

Do students and teachers feel threatened by AI, or see it as an opportunity? How do parents feel about a tool they never learned in school? What if chatbots and AI fail to deliver? Will critical thinking and other skills still be taught? What will education look like in 30 years? This video captures real-time perspectives from students, teachers, and parents across the region, tackling these key questions about AI’s impact on education.

As AI takes on tasks once done by humans, can it replicate empathy, critical thinking, and connection? What does this mean for the future of learning and teaching? This conversation will explore key areas: governance for responsible use, ensuring equity in all contexts, complementing—not replacing—existing systems, and reimagining the teacher’s role.

Do we need teachers in the context of AI? Is it possible to have a school run without teachers? No teachers, no homework, can a school solely use AI to teach students?

Data generation, reducing dropout rates, improving learning levels and enhancing resource allocation are major challenges in the region’s education systems. How can AI support policymakers to create a more efficient system? Who is in charge of managing the system? What role should policymakers, educators, and tech companies play in shaping this transformation? How can we ensure that AI systems are transparent, accountable, and aligned with educational values?

A moderator, a real-person expert, and an AI avatar will engage in a live

conversation, addressing key ethical questions about AI in education. How do the panelists view AI’s role in the classroom? What are their thoughts on privacy and ethics? Do human perspectives challenge AI’s answers?

In the final segment of the event, the Carvajalino’s sisters sit down for a reflective conversation. This conversation isn’t just about AI. Young voices will share their thoughts on how AI is already influencing their learning experiences and their hopes and concerns for the future. Lifelong learning.
